Take a trip back in time to Historic McKinney.
You don’t have to go far to have fun. If you’ve been feeling cooped up lately due to pandemic travel restrictions, maybe you should consider an excursion to Historic McKinney, where the brick streets are lined with really good restaurants and shops. My adventure-seeking friends and myself were pleased to see everyone wearing masks and properly socially distancing on the courthouse square. Our only problem? Where should we start?
It didn’t take us long to decide on Spoons Cafe. As we walked by, one whiff tempted our tastebuds to go inside. What’s that? They serve breakfast all day in addition to down-home favorites—strawberry pancakes, chicken & waffles, fresh soups and salads, a range of classic comfort foods (i.e. meatloaf and burgers) along with specialty cocktails. Truly it was hard to make a decision from the many tasty options on their menu.
Finally I decided on a loaded hamburger with bow-tie pasta as a side dish. My friends both opted for breakfast, followed by huge pieces of made-from-scratch lemon pie and specialty coffee. Which, by the way, got two thumbs up from both of them for a total of four thumbs up. Wow! All of our food was incredibly delicious and affordability priced. Such a rare combination in this day and age.
With our appetites sated, we stumbled back on to Louisiana street to stroll along the storefronts. I couldn’t help but notice a sign that offered music lessons above Spoons. (Guitar • Ukulele • Mandolin) Of course, the three of us had to argue a bit about which of the shops to visit. In the end we went in quite a few with interiors ranging from dreamy and romantic to super sophisticated to starkly mod. All were filled with unique finds that made us “ooh” and “ahh”.
From jewelry, clothes, art and knickknacks to plants and antiques, we perused it all until it was time to leave with our stomachs full and our pocketbooks a little lighter. But what the heck, we were on staycation, and we certainly had a lot of fun in our own DFW Metroplex backyard.
But don’t take my word for it. Plan a future trip to Historic McKinney today. There really is something for everyone of all ages.
My name is Gina Popp and I’m a realtor, writer and native Texan. I live in North Dallas, but I get around so I can help you out if you’re looking to buy or rent in the DFW Metroplex. And, if you’re looking for any other place outside of the North Texas region, I can help set you up with a realtor from that area. So don’t be afraid to email me at ginapopp@att.net. I’d be more than happy to help you find a home in the Lone Star State.
